Hydraulic Breaker Customer Demands a Price Reduction Before Delivery? How Should Suppliers Handle Contract Price Negotiations?
In the hydraulic breaker export business, there is a situation that many suppliers have experienced and find difficult to handle:
The customer has already confirmed the price, signed the contract, and the factory has arranged raw material purchasing and production according to the agreed requirements. The hydraulic breakers are almost finished and ready for delivery.
However, when it is time to pay the final balance, the customer suddenly asks for a discount:
“Other Chinese suppliers contacted me and offered a lower price. Can you give me a better price?”
What should a hydraulic breaker manufacturer do in this situation?
We reported the situation to our company management, and the response was clear:
The contract price is the basis for production.

Hydraulic Breaker Customer Demands a Price Reduction Before Delivery? How Should Suppliers Handle Contract Price Negotiations?
The price of a hydraulic breaker is not only about appearance. It includes:
✅ Selection of raw materials
✅ Steel quality standards
✅ Machining accuracy requirements
✅ Heat treatment process
✅ Quality control of components
✅ Production costs
You get what you pay for.
If the customer feels the price does not match their market requirements, we are willing to discuss and adjust pricing for future orders, based on order quantity, configuration requirements, and market conditions.
However, for an order that has already been contracted and produced, reducing the price at the final delivery stage is not a simple matter. It affects production costs and the original quality standards promised to the customer.
But the customer also said:
“If you don’t give me a discount this time, we will not cooperate in the future.”
As a sales person, this is a difficult position.
We need to maintain a long-term relationship with customers, but we also need to protect factory costs and product quality.
So, when a customer asks for a price reduction before delivery, how should hydraulic breaker suppliers handle it?
We would like to hear your opinions:
If you were the supplier and a customer asked for a discount by comparing other suppliers’ lower prices, what would you choose?
1️⃣ Keep the original contract price
2️⃣ Offer a small discount to maintain the relationship
3️⃣ Re-evaluate the future cooperation plan
In the hydraulic breaker industry, price is important, but stable quality, reliable supply, and long-term cooperation are even more valuable.
