How to Remove a Hydraulic Breaker from an Excavator? Step-by-Step Disassembly & Tips to Prevent Oil Leak & Dust Ingress

Release time:2026年2月27日

Hydraulic breakers are widely used for demolition, rock breaking, and road construction.

Proper disassembly and hydraulic line protection after work prevent oil leakage, system contamination, and early failure.

Below is the official factory guide for safe and standard disassembly of an excavator hydraulic breaker.

5 Steps to Remove a Hydraulic Breaker

1. Choose a clean, flat area and release pressure

  • Move the excavator to stable, clean ground (away from dust, mud, and sand).
  • Turn off the engine and main power switch.
  • If the breaker has high internal gas pressure, release pressure safely first to avoid oil spraying or air entering the system.

2. Close the shut-off valve to stop oil flow

  • Turn the shut‑off valve on the arm 90° to the CLOSED position.
  • This greatly reduces oil leakage during disconnection.

3. Loosen the hydraulic hose connections

  • Loosen the hose fittings in the correct order.
  • Move gently to avoid bending, pulling, or damaging threads.

4. Seal hydraulic lines to prevent dust and dirt

This is the most important step to avoid contamination:
  • Plug hose ends with protective caps or plugs.
  • Keep hoses elevated; do not let them touch the ground.
  • Tie high‑pressure and low‑pressure hoses up with wire to avoid dragging or impact damage.

5. Remove the breaker and store properly

  • Disconnect the breaker and reattach the bucket to the arm.
  • If stored outdoors:
    • Place the breaker on a wooden board to isolate moisture and mud.
    • Cover it with a waterproof sheet to prevent rust and contamination.

Important Notes for Disassembly

  • Prevent contamination first: Dust and sand cause valve seizure and seal wear.
  • Safety first: Always close valves and release pressure before disconnecting hoses.
  • Protect hoses: Keep ends sealed and off the ground.
  • Good storage: Extends service life and makes next installation faster and cleaner.
